Introduction (from the publisher)
The Nemuro Peninsula faces the Ohotsk Sea and the Pacific Ocean on the eastern end of the main island of Hokkaido.
2.6km at a distance from the kelp.Yururi Island is a flat island shadow on the sea surface, which is shaped like a disk.
In the past, there were houses and guards of fishermen who collect kelp,
Half a century ago, the last islanders left Yururi, leaving livestock horses.
Later, in order to eliminate incest disturbance, a stallion was transported to the island for about every five years.
At the peak, 30 horses lived, but the number continued to decrease,
Now only a few live.
The landscape of this island where landing is strictly restricted to protect the unique nature of this land.
It’s like reminiscent of the world of the novel “Lost World”.
Atsushi Okada, a photographer, has been shooting the island since 2011.
What do you look at, look at the things that are gone, protect them, and tell them to posterity?
Introducing modern Lost World in photos and sentences.
